The preliminary value for the CE Plant Cost Index® (CEPCI) for April 2024 (most recent available) decreased slightly compared to the previous month, reversing a three-month string of small monthly increases. In April, declines in the Equipment and Buildings subindices offset small increases in the Construction Labor and Engineering & Supervision subindices to arrive at the overall decrease in the CEPCI. The current CEPCI value now sits at 0.5% lower than the corresponding value from April 2023. Meanwhile, the Current Business Indicators show a small increase in the CPI output index and small decrease in the CPI operating rate for April 2024. The CPI value of output for March 2024 was slightly higher than the February value.
