The preliminary value for the CE Plant Cost Index (CEPCI) for June 2023 (most recent available) fell compared to the previous month, reversing an upward trend over the previous two data cycles. In June, all four of the subindices — Equipment; Buildings; Construction Labor; and Engineering & Supervision — saw declines, with the largest decrease being observed for the Equipment subindex. The current CEPCI value now sits at 3.5% lower than the corresponding value from June 2022. Meanwhile, the Current Business Indicators show no change in the CPI output index and the CPI operating rate for June 2023, and a small decrease in the CPI value of output for May 2023.
